jalepeno poppers

jalepeno poppers, originally uploaded by awungfoo.

Last night, after an early matinee of "Sex and the city", we stopped by Coho Cafe because I rememeber ther jalepeno poppers were really good. At 6pm, it was packed full and we were able to sneak in the lounge/bar and grab the table just as a couple was leaving.

The waitress was kinda whatever. She kept asking us about drinks...
so we got a diet and club soda...both with lime please.

Anyway, Neil ordered the pistachio chicken and was told they were sold out...at 6pm? Right.... So anyway, we ordered these poppers and they didn't look anything like this. I didn't bring my camera with me this time:(

The asparagus that accompanied my fish was so dried out and charred that I commented to Neil that it was like that episode of Top Chef where CJ served some overcooked broccolini to the airline people. It should have never gone out!

So last night, as we were leaving I picked up a comment card and was going to let them know that their food was inconsistent. The service was fine, not great, not bad. Later in the evening, I went online and found that I could email them my comment. :) woo hooo!

This morning, I received a nice letter from the manager apologizing for their inconsistency in their food and would like to offer us a gift certificate to return and dine again.

Ya betcha!

what the bloody..

what the bloody.., originally uploaded by awungfoo.

Sometimes you turn your eyes away from him and the next thing you know, he cuts his tongue or beak on something and there's blood everywhere.

Thank goodness it stopped bleeding but he's got blood all over himself and everywhere in our just cleaned up office.

Reduce Expenses

Yesterday I called AT&T and asked them to review my statement. The guy was very cordial and overly friendly and went through the statement step by step and yet somehow, I felt retarded after he went through it all.

I'm basically paying $29.99 for internet and unlimited text but after taxes & fees, it's more like almost $50. I was like huh? what? So I asked him to get rid of it. He said, but it will be pro-rated and you'll end up paying more. You should cancel it on the first of your cycle on the 11th of next month. I asked him I was being charged for dropping the service midway through the month and how I was paying more?

I said, if it's pro-rated, I'd be paying around $8 now and not $50 by the end of the billing cycle right? He said yes, so I said cancel the service. Duh, like I'm that dumb?!

So now I have a "smartphone" that is really just a phone. I put a block to text and internet on it so I wont' incur fees and I can't make/receive text. So if you're trying to text me, it won't work.

But I can still text others through AIM which is cool and free unless you have to pay for text messaging.

More $ saved that goes to more bills that appear out of nowhere...

just chillin'

just chillin', originally uploaded by awungfoo.

still pulling weeds. not a single dandelion flower around. However, the moss is out of control. in some places, there's only moss and a few inches think!

i think i'll let the summer come in june/july and dry it out and then rake it away. after that, pull more weeds and reseed the lawn by fall.

today will probably been the last day we see sun and 70s for a while. back to gray, wet, and cold for another week or so.

make a wish

hear's a who, originally uploaded by awungfoo.

there's literally 100s of these in the yard and I've spent hours pulling them. I guess spray them would be easier but when I'm out in the yard, I see dozens of sparrows, cardinals, woodpeckers, finches, robins, and hummingbirds darting everywhere.

Now why would I go polluting their habitat?

snowball

snowball, originally uploaded by awungfoo.

Spent a few hours Friday and this morning basically mowing weeds and moss. I was soaked and had to change shirts a few times because it was so hot and dragging a mower across moss was not easy.

Being that it was in the 80s, everything decided to bloom. The tree peony this year has 3 blossoms! It's my favorite plant. No fuss, easy to care, and smells amazing!

hot pot luncheon @ Szechuan Chef

hot pot luncheon, originally uploaded by awungfoo.

Their website said they were closed but when we drove by, the OPEN sign was lit up and we saw people going on. We turned around and went in for lunch.

Mom and I ordered the hot pot for 2. A LOT of food that could have feed 4 or 5 easily. Neil ordered hand shaved dan-dan noodles and smoke pork w/ garlic leaf. I had enough of fatty pork for a while.

The hot pot was sooooo spicy it was ridiculous! I mean it's suppose to be fire hot spicy but it's just been A LONG time since I had anything that almost burned a hole in my stomach.

I think the Zee's (especially William) will enjoy eating here when they come to visit for Joe's wedding.

Szechuan Chef

We've been on a Szechuan style kick lately. Szechuan Chef is in the mall where Big K Mart used to be on 148th.

Way better than Shanghai Garden. Fresh tasting young bamboo with crunchy peanuts, cilantro, and coriander.

Dry cook spicy duck. Hot Pot style. Love that there were so many veggies in there and spicy but not crazy hot. Lots of bean sprouts and inoki mushrooms. Duck on the other hand was very boney and could have been braised longer.

Twice cooked pork. I actually prefer this because the sauce wasn't as thick or heavy. Love the caramel flavor of the soy sauce and leeks.

No pea vines so plain ol' broccoli will do.

Tsingtao of course. But I never do finish my alcohol.

Some stupid Yelper said the portions were smaller and prices went up. The portions we had were huge, even for 3-4 people. They charge for rice but it seems most shanghai type style restaurants do.

i say a little prayer

i say a little prayer, originally uploaded by awungfoo.

the dogwoods in the backyard are blooming. So pretty and creamy white. I've been spending the weekends cleaning up the yard and doing it a little at a time. I've cleaned out the front strip and started on the front island. Weeded out a lot of dandelion and big ass weeds. Hopefully I'll have it back in form by summer.

i forgot we have a CPK. Every time we stayed at the Wilshire in LA, we would stop by for dinner and I would always get the kung pao chicken pasta.

Tonight, we had the rolls, and mushroom pizza neapolitan style.
